Tolu Stedford
CEO, Executive Producer
Tolu Stedford has over 20 years of industry experience and has produced, written and associate director credits encompassing television, film, and stage. As the former CEO of the Independent Film Trust, she supported and developed BAFTA-winning and Oscar-nominated talent and projects created by underrepresented creatives. Tolu is CEO of Story Compound, a talent development and consultancy business, with an in-house production company that focuses on sharing untold stories from the Global Majority that resonate internationally.
Tolu was an Executive Producer of The Medallion, a documentary supported by BFI Doc Society. The documentary has gained noteworthy official selections including an IDA Award nomination, a Cinema Eye Honors, and has been acquired by The New Yorker (Conde Nast Entertainment for worldwide distribution). She also pioneered the Creative Corridor programme sponsored by Sony Entertainment Television, developing international co-production opportunities for Global Majority writers from the US and UK. She then ran, The Residency, a BFI Challenge Fund writer's lab for Global Majority Writers developing action and thriller feature film scripts. Tolu executive produced eight award-winning films for Warner Brothers and the Criminal Justice Alliance, which is currently in the festival circuit.
Film London has recognised Tolu as a promising industry leader as part of the Breaking Glass Ceiling 23 cohort and has been partnered with Jay Hunt (Apple TV Creative Director) and Eva Yates (Director of BBC Film). Tolu is also a thought leader in the area of advocacy for better representation and access for underrepresented creatives, a BAFTA Connect member, British Screen Forum's FUTURE LEADER, Creative Industries Policy and Evidence Centre 'INDUSTRY CHAMPION', Film and TV Charity IPP panel member, KIFF Film Festival jury member, COMIC RELIEF Pop Culture Funding Body Member as well as a member of the ScreenSkills Film Council.
Lily Usher
COO, Producer & Programme Manager
Lily Usher is a British award-winning producer. Her debut documentary short film, The Medallion, was supported by the BFI Doc Society: Made of Truth Fund and won Best Documentary Short at San Francisco International Film Festival (2024) and Best International Film by the Student Jury at Clermont-Ferrand (2024). The documentary has screened at over 40 film festivals around the world, was shortlisted for an IDA Award and Cinema Eye Honours (2024) and won Best Documentary at San Francisco International Film Festival (2024), which qualified the film for the 97th Academy Awards. The documentary has been acquired by The New Yorker and is distributed by SUDU Connexion for France and Germany and TAPE Collective for the UK.
Lily was announced as one of the 2023 OSBD Film Fund Awardees, an inaugural film fund for emerging filmmakers and was also part of the 2024 Watersprite Hubs Documentary Producer Cohort.
Lily has previously worked at BBC Studios, Channel 5, Lime Pictures, Creative Artists Agency (CAA), and has completed an MA in Culture, Diaspora and Ethnicity at Birkbeck, University of London. She has worked in Creative Development and Production at charitable organisations The Independent Film Trust (IFT) and Media Trust respectively.
Lily is currently Chief Operating Officer, Producer and Programme Manager at Story Compound, managing the operations, talent development programmes and producing content in-house across a slate of projects.
Annoushka Clear is assistant to producers: Tolu Stedford and Lily Usher. Before Story Compound, she worked in the screen industries as a freelance reader for companies such as World Productions, Kudos Film and TV and Working Title, a Production Assistant for HTM and an Accounts Assistant on productions for 60Forty Films and Disney. She started her career as an Agents’ Assistant at Gemma Hirst Associates.
Annoushka is passionate about storytelling on screen, and studied MA Screenwriting at Brunel University, London, and BA English Language and Literature at the University of Oxford.
